Fire investigation underway in Waukee

Firefighters are investigating a fire at a commercial building on North 10th Street in Waukee. There were several emergency vehicles outside the Quad/Graphics building Friday night, but no flames were visible from outside. The Waukee Fire Department confirms to KCCI that the fire originated in the building’s bail room. Firefighters say a machine malfunctioned, causing a spark that led to the blaze. According to the Waukee Fire Department, the “bailing” process compacts waste paper for recycling, after the paper has been used to make telephone books. Because the fire involved machinery, firefighters had to be especially careful in the extinguishment process. There were workers in the building, as it is a 24-hour facility. No injuries were caused by the fire. The Waukee Fire Department brought the blaze under control late Friday evening.
